Other Threats

Coalition for independent contractors association for family businesses, owner operators, technology contractors, transportation contractors, healthcare contractors and construction professionals.

While much of the current threat to independent contractors is coming from the IRS, it isn’t all coming from there. Two large and powerful unions seem determined to eliminate people’s freedom to earn their livings as independent contractors – a legal business model that has around as long as there has been a United States of America.

America’s Nurses Speak Out

The SIEU has targeted health care employees as new members. Click the videos below to see what these nurses think of that.

These unions have been actively using U.S. courts and backing new state laws to force companies to convert their independent contractors to employees, and they’ve been right there urging state governments to enact new laws that are hostile to you earning a living as an independent contractor.

And now, they are lobbying hard to get Congress to pass a far-reaching federal law informally called “Card Check.” That bill, masquerading under the more politically correct name “Employee Free Choice Act” would actually take the secret ballot away from employees during union organizing elections. How removal of privacy in voting can be interpreted as “free choice” may be one of the bigger mysteries of the young century.

So the effort to end your right to own a business and earn a living as an independent contractor is really a two-step process:

  • Step One – Force contractors to become employees, thereby creating new candidates for membership in these unions;
  • Step Two – conduct union elections among these forcibly created employees without the privacy of a secret ballot.

It’s a clever agenda, targeted at people whose very independence means they have not been organized to protect themselves against it. Click here to register your opinion on our forum … or here to join your fellow independent contractors in protecting your rights.
