Dear Independent Contractor,
The National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) is gearing up for their July 9th thru 12th meeting in Philadelphia. Just what exactly does this have to do with independent contractors? Allow us to explain.
NCOIL creates model legislation for states to use in creating new laws – and this year that legislation includes… (you guessed it!) employee vs. independent contractor classification laws. This means the freedoms you enjoy are not only being threatened at the federal level, but also at the state level.
During the past few years, at least 12 states have adopted new legislation trying to force the classification of independent contractors as employees. And now it appeals enough to so many other states that they are seeking model legislation to work from.
This is just further proof that a lot of lawmakers want to eliminate your independent contractor status and force you into becoming an employee.
As we reported a couple of weeks ago, independent contractor classification laws affect companies of ALL sizes, both big and small. In fact, it may even end up hurting the small businesses more than the big ones.
If you’re an independent contractor – or a company that relies on them – visit www.cficf.org to learn more… and to voice your opinion.
Let us know what you think about the strong possibility of more states adopting laws that would prohibit your lifestyle and freedom by joining in on the discussion at our Forum.
Sincerely,
David Dunnigan
