<em>Be sure to read the latest CFICF e-newsletter, "'<a href="http://www.cficf.org/wp-content/plugins/st_newsletter/stnl_iframe.php?newsletter=20">Happy Independence (Independents) Day</a>" (full copy is below). If you're not already signed up to receive these communications, then <strong><a href="http://www.cficf.org/newsletter">sign up</a></strong></em> today.

Dear Independent Contractor,

With Independence Day quickly upon us, many of us are reminded of our own independence. As America prepares to celebrate 233 years of independence and democracy, we hope the more than 10 million independent contractors will also take the time to celebrate their own freedoms.

The financial independence and flexibility of independent contracting can also mean more family time. So, for the sake of the families of all American independent contractors, we hope you’ll take some time this holiday weekend to celebrate the freedoms being an independent contractor allows you and yours.

However, we must not forget the very thing we are celebrating remains at stake. Government at both the state and federal level seem determined to take away our independent contractor status and convert us to employees. And as we reported last week, independent contractor classification laws at the state level are gaining steam as the National Conference of Insurance Legislatures (NCOIL) prepares model legislation for employee vs. independent contractor classification laws.

This in mind, we must continue to unite together as one giant voice. If we don’t, we may not have much to celebrate come next 4th of July.

And remember, in addition to our <a href="../">website</a>, we can now unite together on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/cficf">YouTube</a> and <a href="http://www.twitter.com/IndContractors">Twitter</a>. Help us take a stand and be heard! After all, our livelihoods – and families – depend on it.

Sincerely,
David Dunnigan
Executive Director
Coalition for Independent Contractor Freedom
