Over the last couple of weeks I have been watching the presidential debates and have seen what has been going on with Dallas ISD. Basically, for anyone who does not know what is going on Dallas ISD has been in the process of laying off employees after a budget deficit. This “emergency” has allowed Dallas to lay off employees (including teachers) even with the teachers union in place. During the presidential debate on 10-15-08 the issue of education came up. The canidates shortly discussed competition amongst public schools and level of education in America versus other countries. So if this issue is so important why do we allow unions to protect teachers whose students are not producing the level of work expected?

From all the situations I have been exposed to I have to say right on. I am not sure that it can be said that every union is of no good value, but every one of the ones I have dealt with or heard of is of no good. I actually was working for a company and we had a government contract. We were doing cooling tower systems. Basically putting a swimming pool filtration system on a cooling tower and keeping them clean. On this job (on a base) the company had to pay a union plumber to come in and glue all the pvc fittings together. The union guy (which was a lazy, ignorant sloth of an idiot) not only screwed up several times costing materials, but was paid a union wage that was 3 times my wage at the time. How great it must be to get paid 3 times that of some one qualified and instructing you on doing the job just because you are a member. What a joke somethings have become. Like I said in another post it is the “cute and cuddly” ideas that give birth to rapping of our constitutional rights

If you want to get ahead in a Union shop…

I work for a company that runs a Union shop. Upon getting the job I was given a job offer. It was substantially less than what I was used to making. When I inquired to the recruiter about the pay she said, “It's a Union shop, everyone starts at the same pay and gets increases automatically every six months”.

At first I thought this was a good deal. Even though I started out low in a short time I'm guaranteed a raise. What I neglected to ask was, “What if I do a good job before six months? Can management elect to give me a raise?” The answer I later found out is a resounding NO!

So here I am, busting my butt trying to get ahead because I take pride in my work and the lazy guy next to me gets the same raise, same benefits, and same privileges as I do. Can this be good for any company? I would think a company where the most skilled and hardest working of its employees are the ones who are rewarded, not simply the ones who have been there the longest. You see, in a Union EVERYTHING is done by seniority.

Your schedule: Seniority
Days off: Seniority
Vacations: Seniority
Time off: Seniority
Holidays: Seniority
Job offers: Seniority
Advancement: Seniority

Hell, even when we had events where food was served, the line for that was in, you guessed it… SENIORITY!

So if you're a lazy old person who has no aspiration in your self or the company you work for, Unions are for you. That is until the company you work for continues to lose money due to your ignorance, sloth, and the high cost of your bloated salary and benefits.

If you're like myself, a young man looking to better himself and his situation you'll have a hard time in a Union shop. I can't tell you how many times I've seen an opportunity come up where the manager wanted to hire me due to my skill and dedication but was FORCED by the union to hire someone with little to no skill. But, he met the MINIMUM requirements and had more seniority. In the union's eyes, he's the more qualified one.

Wouldn't that be awesome if hospitals were run that way? Sure… we have someone who can perform brain surgery on you. His name is Ronald, he was born in 1936 and had a steady “C” average in medical school.

“Now lookie here! We's gonna saw off the top of your head with this here thing-a-ma-jig. Then we's gonna use these here tweezers to root around in there and see if we can't find that da bern clot!”

Anyone else getting the idea that Unions are bad for ANY business model? Perhaps 50 years ago when company's treated it's workers like slaves they were of useful. In this day we have more than enough laws on the books to protect workers. The unions now only succeed in hindering the business of America making it harder for that company to compete in a world market. By doing this the Unions are causing us to LOSE more jobs to overseas contractors than it saves.

If you don't like seeing jobs go overseas, get rid of the Unions!!!!!!
