Dear Independent Contractor,
In addition to YouTube, our independent contractor Coalition is now on Twitter! As we continue to expand the voice of our nation’s 10 million independent contractors, this social networking phenomenon will be a great platform to expand awareness of our name and attract new members.
To learn more, visit http://twitter.com/indcontractors. We also encourage you to leave your thoughts and comments on any independent contractor issues. In addition, Twitter will easily allow other independent contractors to read about various independent contractor issues by linking to news stories.
As time marches on, state and federal governments increasingly have independent contractors in their sights. In July, an organization that brings together state legislators focused on insurance issues will be reviewing a draft resolution on independent contracting and employee “misclassification.” The group creates model legislation for the 50 states to enact. At the federal level, there still remains a strong risk that the Independent Contractor Proper Classification Act (ICPCA) would pass when it is introduced… and the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) still threatens to eventually pass.
These bills, if they become law, would have the effect of forcing millions of independent contractors to lose their businesses and become employees… many of them then finding themselves in unions without ever having a say in the matter. The risk this places on our current economy is huge.
Stay tuned. CFICF will keep you up to date on all the latest developments with EFCA and ICPCA so be sure to check back often.
You can join the discussion at:

or on our Forum at: http://www.cficf.org/forum. In addition, please tell us about your independent contracting business at http://www.cficf.org.
We MUST continue to join together and act together! Not only are our livelihoods on the line, the overall American economy is as well.
Sincerely,
David Dunnigan
